IN MEMORIAM:

On September 3, 2022, our senior partner and firm leader, Steve Brown, passed away after courageously fighting the effects of major cancer surgery for seven years. Steve was a universally respected and honored member of the Kansas City Trial Bar, whose skills in front of a jury, whether defending healthcare professionals or other myriad businesses and individuals in high stakes litigation, was matched only by his absolute professionalism in every aspect of the practice of law. Steve was a trusted partner, mentor, and friend to generations of lawyers and staff at Brown & Ruprecht and its predecessor. His passing is a significant loss to our firm and the Kansas City legal community. May he rest in peace.

During his career, Steve has represented large corporations, individuals, and most everything in between concerning a variety of legal issues that still inspire and intrigue him. Much of his legal work in the last fifteen years has focused on the defense of health care professionals — neurosurgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, skilled and long-term care facilities. He has defended mass tort cases involving catastrophic injuries and numerous plaintiffs and defendants. He also vividly remembers defending a veterinarian who gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in an unsuccessful attempt to save a Cocker Spaniel.
